| Abstract: | Earthquake damages of the Nippon-Kai Chubu Earthquake of May 26 (1983) located 100km off the west coast of Akita were investigated. 104 deaths and 1584 wooden houses (totally destroyed) had been attributed to the earthquake and tsunami mainly in Akita, Aomori and Hokkaido districts. Damages to wooden houses, harbor structures and burried pipelines due to liquefaction of the ground were observed significantly. Most of deaths were caused by tsunami reached within 7 minutes. Maximum height of run-up tsunami was estimated about 13.8m at Menagata, Minehama village. |
