Abstract: A series of uniaxial compression tests of reinforced high strength concrete (RC) columns have been carried out to examine the size effect on their compressive behavior. The strength (Fc) of concrete has been set to be about Fc=700kgf/(cm)^2,and the RC columns have been confined by various types of hoops ([figure]). Based on the test results, discussion is carried out mainly on the relation between the types of hoops and the size effect on the compressive strength, strain at the peak stress, and stress-strain curve of the RC columns. Test results show that the size effect on the compressive behavior is largely dependent on the type of hoops.
