Size Effect on Plastic Deformation Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Beams under Uniform Flexural Moment

Abstract: In this study, the variations of moment-curvature relationships of reinforced concrete beams of various sizes under uniform flexural moment were examined. The size effect on the compressive strength and the complete stress-strain behavior of confined concrete were also examined by using a stiff compressive testing machine. The following results were obtained : 1) Strain at the maximum stress of confined concrete increases with decreasing size of specimen for the large percentage of transverse reinforcement. 2) Moment-curvature relationships of reinforeced concrete beams are affected by the size of beam, i.e., the moment-curvature relationships of large size beam specimens are rather brittle compared with those of small specimens.
