Abstract: Following Part(I), numerical examinations are made in the present paper on the proposed 3D analysis of bearing capacity of square and rectangular footings. Discussions are first given on the fundamental characteristics of 3D solutions, by taking notice of the relation between the number of soil columns and the accuracy of solution, the influence of stress distribution along the base on the bearing capacity, and developement and enlargement of curved sliding surfaces. Bearing capacity factors are then calculated to investigate the effects of the side ratio and the angle of internal friction, and the applicability of the theorem of correspondence and superposition error involved in the calculation of bearing capacity. Characteristics of the shape factors obtained by the prsent 3D solutions are also examined through comparisons with experimental and empirical formulae. Additional discussions are made on the 3D bearing capacity of footings on normally consolidated clay foundation with undrained strength increasing linearly with depth.
