Abstract: This study is concerned with the vibrations from sources such as urban traffics, manufacturing plant operations, and constuction sites. This type of vibrations has a feature of small amplitudes with relatively high frequencies. It may, however, become a public nuisance to our society, in other words, vibration pollution. This paper describes the results of field surveys of such vibration pollution which were measured at railroad-side areas. The Quantification theory by Hayashi was applied to the data to obtain significant attributes to the propagating characteristics. The equations are proposed for estimating the vibration level in the surrounding sites of railroad by the stastical approach. The comparison was made between the observed values from fields and the predicted values through the Quantification theory. It is found that the predicted values fit to the measured values well.
