歴史地震の研究(6) : 嘉永7年(安政元年)11月4日(1854年12月23日)の安政東海地震の震害・震度分布および津波災害

Abstract

The earthquake and tsunami damages caused by the Ansei Tokai earthquake of 1854 are investigated from old documents collected for understanding the damage locality and the occurrence characteristics of an earthquake in Tokai district. The distribution of seismic intensity and tsunami inundation heights along the sea coast are also studied. Tokaido district along the Pacific coast was hit by the large tsunami of this earthquake, the largest height of which was estimated at about twenty one meters at Ohsatsu, Shima Peninsula, Mie prefecture, Japan. This earthquake epicenter was estimated as longitude 135.0E, latitude 34.0N in Enshunada, Tokaido. About 8300 houses were destroyed and washed away and about 600 houses were burned out and about one thousand inhabitants were killed including drowned peoples. The magnitude of the Ansei earthquake was estimated at 8.3. The distributions of inundation height and seismic intensity are shown in Fig. 1 and 2,respectively.
