Abstract

"Records of dragonflies in and around the Yakusa Campus of Aichi Institute of Technology, central Honshu, Japan, were reviewed, and dragonfly nymphs and adults were collected eight times from April to November in 2016 at five ponds in and around the campus. We found the records of 58 dragonfly species (including two species newly found in 2016) since 1970’s in the literature, but only 35 dragonfly species were collected in 2016. This decrease of species richness can be caused by the predation on dragonfly nymphs by the invasive fishes; largemouth bass, Micropterus salmoides and bluegill, Lepomis macrochirus and by the invasive crayfish, Procambarus clarkii, inhabiting four of the five ponds. We propose removal of these invasive predators from the four ponds to enrich the species diversity of dragonflies."
