| 抄録: | The aim of this study an attempt to make clear the development of the concept of the gentleman in relation to the social structure in ninetennth century England. Charles Dickens' Bleak House is examined here. Literature makes it possible to analyse contemporary society more realistically than by social science, because, it tends to show the time and society more vividly by its free imagination. From this point of view, the concept of gentleman in the nineteenth century England will be discussed in this paper, mainly concerning self-made man and gentleman in the Bleak House. |
