A Study of the Function of Japanese Connectives Indicating Logic Direction in Students’ Essays

Abstract: Connectives indicate a logical direction in the sentences of paragraph and text comprehension. Though, we find some logical confusion in students’ essays and statements. This paper aims to clarify that some factors cause logical confusion by Japanese connectives in student’s essays. As a result, we can find two-type connectives in students’ essays. One type is casual connectives which use in conversation and the other type is standard used in academic writing. The former has two functions and is different from the latter. That function influences personal relationships and makes logical direction invisible to create good communication between speaker and addressee.
