Effects of Visual Training Using Game Machines

抄録: We performed an experiment to verify effects of the visual training using game machines. The subjects consisted of eight college students each in the training-group and the non-training-group. The training-group received a 15 minute-training session 3 times a week for a period of two and a half months。 We also evaluated retained effects at 1 month and 2 months after completion of the training. The main results are as follows: 1) Effects of the visual training reached maximum at 2 months into the training with visual capacity improved by approximately 15 % compared to the baseline. Effects of the training were still retained at 2 months after completion of the training. 2) Individual differences of visual capacity among subjects at the baseline were not resolved by the training. 3) The training significantly improved visual functions measured by SPEESION (Asics Inc。). Thus、 the training using game machines was proven to improve visual functions. 4) The training significantly increased the speed of reading vertically arranged texts. However、 it did not increase the speed of reading horizontally arranged texts. Further study is needed to determine whether the training using game machines increases the speed of reading texts or not.
