Abstract: The all optical mode locking of Fabry-Perot laser diodes enable us to generate optical pulse trains at high repetition frequencies. The method is based on the mutual injection locking of two longitudinal modes and successive injection locking of adjacent longitudinal mode. In this paper, the characteristics and applications of the method are investigated. It is found that the reproducibility is improved by using a SELFOC lens as the external cavity. Feasibility of division of the pulse repetition frequency is also quantitatively discussed with phase lock loop model.
