Abstract: A lot of steel bridge piers are accepted instead of reinforced concrete bridge piers at city highway recently. The Great Hanshin Earthquake on 1995 caused several types of damage in steel structures. Many types of local buckling appeared in elevated steel bridge piers. In this paper, prepare 5 pipes sectioned specimens. Quasi-static cyclic loading tests assuming seismic force were conducted to investigate the elasto-plastic behavior. It is concluded that diaphragms are required to increase strength and ductility piers.
