The Effect of Light Irradiation to a Directly Heated Type Thermionic Converter

Abstract: Generally, a thermionic converter has to be operated at high temperature. But it makes the life of the cathode fall off, which has been one of causes of preventing practical use. Irradiating a laser to thermionic converter enclosed cesium, we tried to develop of one operated in relatively low temperature region. It is confirmed that the laser irradiation have improved to generate electricity in the thermionic converter, and that it is more effective at the lower temperature.
