Wordsworthの瞑想的想像力とイギリスロマン派詩人(2)

タイトル: Wordsworthの瞑想的想像力とイギリスロマン派詩人(2)
著者: 森, 豪
抄録: The second part of the study deals with the comparisons between Coleridge and Wordsworth in connection with meditation, between Blake and Wordsworth in connection with night which is the best situation for the meditation, and between Keats and Wordsworth in connection with the other world. By those investigations we can find that the meditation similar to Wordsworth's plays a very important role in Coleridge's "Frost at Night, " and we can find the reason why Blake criticizes Wordsworth and what Blake finds in the darkness of the night, and we can find that Keats' self is different from Wordsworth's but Keats seeks the eternal world as well as Wordsworth.

抄録: The aim of this study is to investigate the main attributes which constitute Wordsworth's imaginative and transformational activity in comparison with the other English romantic poets, especially Blake, Coleridge, Shelley and Keats. The main attributes are solitude, meditation and the other world. Wordsworth finds the other eternal world by his solitary meditation. His imagination works so well when he muses alone, and earthly things are transmuted into unearthly things at that time. The study of that process of transformation is the integral part of the understanding of Wordsworth. The first part of the study deals with the explanation about Wordsworth's specific qualities, and the comparison between Wordsworth and Shelley in connection with the solitude which is one of the specific qualities of Wordsworth's imaginative working. As Wordsworth loves the solitude, Shelley tries to do so. But the poet of Shelley's "Alastor" can not find "the bliss of solitude" as Wordsworth can. That's due to the difference between their ways of thinking.

抄録: The aim of this study is an attempt to make clear the development process of the concept of "gentleman" in relation to its social structure in nineteenth century. It had been said that the so called sportsman and fairplay in modern sport was influenced and was formed by the middle classes, and made the remarkable development. Namely, England was the first country to industrialize and the development of modern sport-formation be seemed to just a reflect of this economic change, however, this answer based on such rude ecomonic determinism is unsatisfactory. And the important thing is change in the gentlemanly behaviour which occured in that connection. From this point of view, the concept of "gentleman" in nineteenth century will be discusssed in this paper, mainly concerning the concept of "gentleman" treated in the Self-help of Samuel Smile.
